Live Glassblowing Demonstrations |
This is a great option for school field trips. The narrated glassblowing demonstrations include a brief history and chemistry of glass and Q&A.
Groups of 20 or less are most comfortable in the shop space but we have hosted larger parties in the past. An additional fee may apply for groups larger than 25 attendees. Each attendee will need to sign a waiver, or bring a waiver signed by their legal guardian. Please be sure to review our studio participant policy as well.
The item(s) made will be determined by the glassblower and belongs to Decatur Glassblowing. Of course, if there are certain items you are interested in seeing made, let us know when you book. If you would like to purchase the piece made during the demo, please let the glassblower know and arrange payment after the demo.
A studio tour may be permitted at the end of your demo but please request it at the time of booking as availability will vary.
You may make a piece after the demonstration for an extra charge per person and depending on which item you make. Please call us to discuss details and booking.

NEW! "See Yours Made" Series |
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, we have come up with a socially distant demonstration where you can keep the piece you see made. At this time we are only offering the below options.
Come and watch our professional glassblowers make a piece for you. You choose from 25+ colors and our glassblowers will show you how it's made, step-by-step. They will explain the process and answer any questions you may have. All details about this series are answered in the F.A.Q. below.
NOTE: This is not a hands-on glass making experience. You will be watching the process from a minimum of a 6-foot distance to maintain proper social distancing. Masks are required for all visitors.

"See Yours Made" F.A.Q.
Will I get to participate in the process?
No. In order to maintain proper social distance, spectators will be sitting a minimum of 6-feet away from the hot glass work area.
Is there an age-limit?
No. Unlike our hands-on classes, our "See Yours Made" Series is open to all ages. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult with permission from their legal guardian. Please see more info about our studio setting and minor participant policy.
How many colors are there to choose from?
We don't have a set number of colors but will be adding many more options to our regular rotation of colors (likely 25+), just for this series. Color availability may vary seasonally or run out from class to class. Scroll to the bottom of this page to see a photo of the available colors in December 2020.
Can I take my piece home the same day?
No. All items will need to be cooled and checked over a 48-hour period, so your items will not be ready to take home the same day of your demo and you will have to come back to pick up the finished piece within 60 days or arrange for shipping at an additional cost. Cost of shipping will depend on how many items are being shipped and where it is going. Typically shipping ranges from $12 to $20.
How many people can I bring with me?
Currently we are offering this series for as few as one person to groups as large as 8 persons. This includes total number of spectators and not just the number of pieces made. If you are interested in bringing a larger group, please call us to discuss.
Not everyone in my group wants their own piece. Do I have to pay for everyone anyway?
No, if you have a group of 6 but only want 3 ornaments made, please select the "3 ornaments" activity. Please understand that we can only allow for a maximum of 8 spectators in order to maintain proper social distance. If you are interested in bringing a larger group, please call us to discuss.
Can I get more than one for myself?
Yes. If you would like more than one piece for yourself, please select the activity for the total number of pieces in total. If you are interested in more items than what is listed in the activities, please call us to discuss. We would be happy to allow more items per person for a small group.
Can we bring food and drinks?
Normally we allow food and drinks but due to our strict mask policy we cannot allow food and drinks in the shop at this time. You may utilize the table we have on our front porch for food and drinks outside, but no person will be allowed inside without a mask.
Do I really have to wear a mask if I am six feet away from others?
Yes. Anyone not wearing a mask will not be allowed in the building. If you are asked multiple times to put your mask on properly (covering mouth and nose) you may be asked to leave without a refund.
Will the staff and glassblowers be wearing a mask?
Our staff is required to properly wear a mask at all times. During your demonstration, the glassblower may need to pull their mask down briefly to blow a bubble into any blown pieces, but they will be at least 6 feet away from spectators when this happens. This is partly why we will have spectators spaced away from the work area.
Your website says "No Cancellations or Refunds". What if I am sick?
In normal times, we have a no cancellations or refunds policy for most of our classes. Right now, safety for our customers and staff is our priority so we will make an exception and allow for cancellations due to illness. Please give us as much notice as possible if you begin to have any symptoms of COVID-19. We will not allow anyone with any COVID-19 symptoms or anyone with recent COVID-19 exposure to enter the building.
What is Decatur Glassblowing doing to keep the studio safe and clean in regard to the coronavirus outbreak?
Please read through our detailed COVID-19 safety procedures. We are following CDC guidelines by social distancing and requiring masks, along with other safety precautions and increased cleaning and sanitation.
I don't see the day or time that I want. Is there other availability?
Please call us if you don't see the date and time you are looking for. We are currently open only a few days a week but may be able to accommodate you outside of our listed gallery hours. Be sure to leave a voicemail and we will return your call as soon as we are able to.
How do I book my spot?
Please click here and you will be redirected to our booking platform. If you have any trouble with booking online, you may also call us to schedule.
Have more questions?
Please see our general FAQ page. If any information is contradictory, refer to this page ("See Yours Made" FAQ) as our current standards and policies in place during the coronavirus pandemic and until further notice. You may also call us with questions anytime. Be sure to leave a voicemail and we will return your call as soon as we are able to. Please understand we are open limited hours and may take a few days to return your call.
Thank you for supporting our small business during these trying times! We appreciate you. :)
