Can I bring food and drinks to my class?
Yes! You are welcome to bring food and drinks with you. We have a small table that you may use to set up what you bring. You may also bring decorations to personalize your event, such as for birthday celebrations or bachelorette parties.
What should I wear to a glassblowing class?
Closed-toe shoes are required in the shop. Decatur Glassblowing is a high heat environment. Cotton shirts and blue jeans are recommended as good year-round glassblowing clothing to shield the skin from heat. Shorts are allowed. Avoid wearing loose clothing, scarves, or jewelry that may get in the way. If you have long hair, please be prepared to tie it back behind your shoulders. Safety glasses will be provided or you are welcome bring your own protective eyewear with you.
How hot is it in the shop?
Please note that it may become extremely hot in the shop. You will be working with glass and equipment that can be upwards of 2000 degrees. For this reason, please be aware of how you are feeling and do not push yourself. If you are feeling uncomfortable or unwell, notify your instructor immediately. We have a small air-conditioned area of our gallery and recommend that you schedule your class later in the evening during the hotter parts of the year.
When do you offer classes?
We do our best to schedule private classes whenever you'd like. Availability may change seasonally so please email us to discuss scheduling. The further in advance you book your class, the more likely we will be able to accommodate your preferences. We also offer public group classes throughout the year. See our class calendar for current options and availability.
How many people can I schedule a class for?
For glassblowing classes, we can accommodate up to 25 students and as few as 1 person at a time. These numbers may vary depending on the item you would like to make.
What will I get to make?
Most of our beginner classes will start out with a paperweight, flower, or ornament. Please see our class information page here for all options. If you have other items in mind, please call us and we are happy to discuss other options so that you get the most of your hot glass experience. Item availability will vary depending on time and total number of participants, as well as student experience.
What will my final piece look like?
You can see our class items on the class info page. There are more details and other photos on each individual item page. To see all details, click on the photos. Our classes are designed to give participants an experience of working with hot glass. If you are looking for a piece with specific shapes, dimensions, or colors, please view our custom orders page.
What colors can I choose from? Can I mix colors?
We have several colors available for you to choose from. Not all colors are compatible when mixed and may unexpectedly create muddy browns or grays. To avoid this problem, we have professionally designed our pre-made color mix options, therefore we cannot allow mixing of colors in classes. Please note, color availability may vary seasonally or run out from class to class.
How do I book a class?
Many of our classes can be booked online. See our class calendar and click the time you want to book for more details or call us to schedule your class today! Full payment is required in advance to reserve a class time. If you are booking a group class (8+ people), a $100 deposit is required per instructor. Number of instructors will vary based on the item being made.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations or reschedules made less than 7 days prior to your scheduled activity may be charged a 20% fee. Only 50% back with less than 24-hour notice. Refunds will not be permitted for no-shows.
