Participant Policy for all Visitors
While we welcome people of all ages and abilities at Decatur Glassblowing, the hot shop and gallery are both areas that require a great deal of caution. We have several pieces of dangerous equipment, and anything in the studio area could be upwards of 2,000 degrees. In addition, the gallery is full of breakable works of art. In the past, we have had concerns about the level of attention and supervision that adults gave to the children they accompanied. For that reason, we have developed the following Participant Policy:
Please be aware that any one in the hot shop must not have any physical or emotional problems that could create any risk for the participant/others or that could impair their ability to follow instructions and utilize our studio and equipment in a safe manner. Unfortunately this means that we are unable to accommodate those in assisted living or those with significant physical or mental disabilities. Attached is our liability waiver that each participant will need to sign. If you and other participants agree with all policies on our waiver we are happy to accommodate you for a class or demonstration.
This policy is in place for the protection of our customers. We want to share the art of glassblowing with both adults and children, but want to make sure that everyone is safe during the process. We appreciate your attention to and cooperation with our safety policies.
- Children must be 10 years old to participate in glassblowing classes, and must be 7 years old to attend as an observer.
- Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult who is prepared to continuously supervise them throughout their visit at DG, as well as have a waiver signed by their legal guardian.
- It is important to be aware that DG does not have staff in the shop to supervise children when they are not taking their turn in classes. The instructors must focus solely on the person they are assisting with glassblowing.
- Decatur Glassblowing and its staff will not be responsible for anyone who is hurt or injured in the shop.
- The supervising adult will be fully responsible for anything that is broken or damaged.
